Pettit Reserve field trip
- Is rescheduled for Friday, May 21st. 4th graders will enjoy an outdoor expedition while learning about food webs and the food chain. Students should wear gray class t-shirt and athletic shoes as we will do lots of walking. Please pack snack and disposable lunch in separate labeled bags with plenty of water.

What Are We Learning?

Reading: Understand that when trying to reach a goal or solve a problem, anticipation rises until something happens that influences the outcome as we finish our novel study of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
Language Arts: Pronouns
Math: Students multiply units and non-unit fractions by whole numbers.
Science: Students will investigate what happens when light moves and how the eye works
Spelling: Accurately spell and write words with Greek and Latin roots
Bible: God has a special purpose for every Christian.

Students should wear gray class t-shirt and athletic shoes as we will do lots of walking. Please pack snack and disposable lunch in separate labeled bags with plenty of water.

What Are We Learning?

Reading: Understand that when trying to reach a goal or solve a problem, anticipation rises until something happens that influences the outcome.
Language Arts: Finishing up Unit 4 about adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions.
Math: Students use their understanding of whole-number multiplication to multiply fractions by whole numbers.
Science: Students will explore the different parts of the ear and how they aid in hearing and look into how light travels.
Spelling: Accurately spell and write words with suffixes.
Bible: God used the Apostle Paul to spread the gospel throughout the world.

Math Placement Test Reminder


5th Grade Math Placement Test is happening on Thursday, May 6th! Along with students’ math average, standardized test scores, and teacher recommendation, the placement test data helps us determine the most appropriate math class for each individual student for fifth grade at NCCS.

Rafferty’s field trip - 4th graders will wear their “Sunday Best” clothing and enjoy an outing to for lunch at Rafferty’s Restaurant in Kennesaw as a culminating activity in our Manners Unit on Wednesday, May 5th.

Field Day and ½ Day- Lower School students will enjoy a fun day exercising good sportsmanship through the games we play at Field Day on Friday, May 7th. Please wear sunscreen and a hat if needed. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. Students are allowed to wear athletic shorts. Make sure to wear your gray class t-shirt as well. We will dismiss at 11:15 to car line and Flipside.

-No Friday Folder today because of a “light week” due to IOWA Testing. Friday Folders will be sent home on Friday, April 30th.



-OUTDOOR Wax Museum (socially distanced) at the NCCS Tennis Courts on Wednesday, April 28th 9:30am-10:30am - students will come to school dressed in their costume for the Wax Museum. Parents are welcome to attend this socially distanced event. Parents will need to bring a smart device that scans QR codes (you can get an app for free) and earphones. We are so happy to be able to have this event!

-ITBS Testing is Monday thru Friday of next week. - Please send a healthy, peanut free snack and a water bottle with your child each day of testing. Being on time is key to starting the day successfully. Students arriving tardy will not be allowed into the classroom for testing since we begin at 8:00am except for Wednesday when we begin at 9:00am.

We want to remind you that we begin class instruction at 8:00 AM each day. Students may come into the classrooms beginning at 7:30 AM. We recommend arriving early enough for your child to unpack their backpacks and complete their morning work and activities. Having time in their classroom before school begins allows your child to be ready to start their day off prepared to be successful.

Reading: Making inferences and drawing conclusions using details from the text and background knowledge.
Language Arts: Identify adjectives and the nouns they describe
Math: Review line symmetry and explore properties of symmetric shapes as well as demonstrate mastery over Unit 5 concepts
History: Describe tactics that led to the end of the Civil War, including Sherman’s “March to the Sea”. Discuss the events of President Lincoln’s assassination.

Wax Museum Update- Out of an abundance of caution, the Wax Museum has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 28th outdoors so that parents can attend this important event. In the meantime, you will receive a digital Wax Museum on the originally scheduled date of Friday, February 26th where you can view your child's presentation.

Valentine’s Day in 4th Grade- Students have made a Valentine at school for each classmate, and teachers have provided a small, paper Valentine bag. The fourth grade will be making paper roses to send to a local nursing home as a service project on Tuesday the 9th. Our wonderful PTF is providing students with a cookie to decorate and pizza lunch on Wednesday the 10th when we will celebrate Valentine’s Day in the classroom. We ask that if your child wants to purchase Valentines in addition to what we are making to please make sure they include all classmates.

Information about Math Olympics: The qualifier assessment for this year's Math Olympics was given in class. The top 3 students for computation and the top 3 for reasoning in the GRADE LEVEL will move on to represent NCCS at this year's competition which will take place on our own campus in March.

Language Arts: Subject/Verb Agreement with verb tenses
Math: Multiply a two-digit factor by a two-digit factor
History: Identify why some African Americans and Native Americans joined the war.

Bible: Listening with an attitude of learning will result in the gaining of godly wisdom, which will bring forth fruit in our lives.
